M151 1/4-ton ID Features and Differences

No problem. Here is a comparison of the different kit tires/wheels from my review article.

So what about the replacement suspension parts? Wayne

The Upper A-Arms for the front are a must, either James’ 3D printed ones or DEF Model’s ones as all the kits are missing them. You could also scratch them out of angle-iron styrene bent into a “D” shape with the flat side open. They all are also missing the rest of the front steering arms and parts as well.

I scratched it all on an M151A1 I did a while back.

And the rear?

Found two different sets.

This is listed as early.

And this as late.

The worth is up to the modeler to decide.

Rear is fine on the Tamiya kits. Maybe a little compressed, but that can be fixed with a 0.030 shim under the spring. The Academy M151A1 still has an A2 rear suspension, but I know of no AM correction set for it. It can be scratched though.

Hi Gino,

To update your information - the slave cable socket on the front kerbside fender was fitted to some US Army A1s.

Verlinden’s Warmachines #14 booklet shows a good example on the front cover. I’ve also seen it on M151A1s used by Luxembourg - probably to align with NATO requirements?

Good to know. Thanks. As always, the best bet is to find a pic of what you want to model and follow/replicate its features.

Here’s another. They were actually quite common.

As you can see from the photo, they were mixed in with A2s in Berlin, so you dealt with both.
Even these had the supplementary marker lights on the fenders as in my Berlin builds.
