M151A2 Grenada Operation urgent Fury colour question

That’s exactly what my two commanders called them at Ft. Bliss, 1/4 tons

More Gun Jeep action.

All these were post Grenada and were the early FAVs used by Rangers, until they got their hands on the RSOVs.

But wait… I thought the Army didn’t authorize the fi’ty on those. It would stress and crack the chassis.

Big Army can advise whatever they want; but Regiment will do the final determination… I think.

Oh, I’ve known that. I was quoting someone else on here. Those don’t look like re-enactors to me. :grinning:

You can continue to point out that some jeeps had them, I have not denied that. I will continue to point out that official US Army policy during Vietnam banned their use on M151s. Maybe there was a kit that reinforced the mount and/or frame on later M151A2s or some units just did it anyways.

I don’t ever remember seeing roll cages on a 151 until the late 80’s…. actually probably around 1990.

I don’t recall mentioning you at all. You’re only calling yourself out. But as Reynier pointed out, Army policy and what really happens in the field are vastly different things.

My God.
All the times you’ve been called out for BS your excuse was always “I hadn’t had my morning coffee yet.” It’s very abundant in searches. But for once, maybe you should have a little less coffee. I wouldn’t want your blood pressure to exceed normal operating parameters, I didn’t call you out in my post. But since you continue to make a thing of it, here’s your original statement I refer to. It mentions nothing about official Army policy.

And yes, I remember saying I’d call out BS by you or anyone when I see it. In fact I avoid calling you out at times for the same reasons I don’t critique your builds very often. Especially when it’s artillery related, Believe or not I really don’t want to make you seem less than informed. No one else gets that courtesy with me. (No, the Paladin doesn’t have a lockout, but I never said anything about that one that you’ve repeated at least twice) This is how myths get perpetuated on this site and all over the internet. People continuing to make untrue statements until the unwashed accept it as fact, like the Tamiya M48 turret needing a shim, which I showed through actual research and measurements of the real thing was not the case.

Still trying to figure out what BS you’re talking about.

If I wanted to be childish I’d ask you to stop using the word anyways. A pet peeve of mine and at least one two star in Korea. I saw him really light into a Specialist for using it during a briefing.
As far as bets, don’t flatter yourself. Are we done here, or do you want to continue to make this a thing? If not I’ve gotta see what Barney Fife is up to.

I’m kicking myself now because I didn’t take pictures back then , but I was at Fort Benning from 87-89 in D Co., 1/58 Infantry, 197th BDE and I could’ve sworn our jeeps had roll cages with some kind of cross webbing if I recall correctly; that’s a big if though lol. My memory is fuzzy when it comes to some things.

That might be an AN/PVS-4. Looks like the same one that went on the .50 cal in the 80’s.

Someone on this site is known by several as the “Get off my lawn” guy. It’s not me.
Besides, I don’t drink coffee. Esse. Now, you may have the last word as is your want.

Back to the thread - is anyone interested in having any of those wheel/tire combos done in 3D?

Yep. AN/PVS-4

Back in ‘96 I literally threw one together in five minutes, with the intention of upgrading it in the future. I used to get so many comments that I decided to leave it.

@18bravo @HeavyArty gentlemen, will you please take your disputes elsewhere?

This is what I am trying to revive/finally finish:

03 front

and the current state as I found it in the box; 2 airborne meeting a Ranger-ride.

Yup, stalled at the paintingstage yet again. Did not like the basic brown.
And I need to drill out the rims too.

Now that is a nicely done scratchbuilt sight. And you’re right -that brown looks hideous. It may be the light, but it looks flesh colored.
Odd, because right before I clicked on this I was was looking at some extremely old NATO three tone and the brown fades to almost that same color.

Why not black, like your first photo? Your project but that seems to simplify the color issue your stalled at.

Nice job on the scope. :+1:

That M151A2 is coming along great. Excellent job so far.

If you feel like doing a little scratch work, the large rucks need frames. And reposition them with the bottoms outboard and the tops meeting in the center of the hood.
