M163A2 Vulcan w/interior build

Thanks Mario. I considered metal barrels, but decided against them. The kit barrels are not that bad and will look fine once painted up.

As promised, here is the update.

I am shooting to make something like this M163A2 from 24 ID in ODS. Yes, I know it has sand hatch interiors, but I like the contrast of the green ones, so be it.

I painted it with a spray can of Krylon Ivory. It replicates modern CARC Sand well and looks really good once weathered.

I had to make my own decals since the Academy ones didn’t fit, they were too big. I also wanted to mark it as A-11, so I made that one too. The “IV” on the sides are made from modified Coalition V’s that were cut up and reoriented, The unit shipping number on the front lower glacis and the ADA symbols on the sides are from the kit. It also appears that the radar dish was not repainted sand on these vehicles. It looks a little sloppy like it was covered with a trash bag. I sort of did the same with some tape and allowed some overspray here and there.

Next up is the tracks and weathering.

Were the kit decals good to go, or did you wander afield?

Hi Ted,

I made my own bumper number decals since the Academy ones didn’t fit; they were too big. I also wanted to mark it as A-11, so I made that one too. The “IV” on the sides are made from modified Coalition V’s that were cut up and reoriented. The unit shipping number on the front lower glacis and the ADA symbols on the sides are from the kit.

Thanks Gino-
I had seen parts of this, but lost track going back and forth for the answer(s).I appreciate the time.

The Vulcan is done.

I added some generic stowage, a 20mm ammo can, a couple old-style MRE boxes, and a Stinger storage case across the rear, as seen in the pic above. I weathered it with a couple different washes of a dirty-brown color and a sandy color. I then drybrushed with a slightly darker sand color and selectively with a rust color. I also added spilled fuel using Tamiya’s clear smoke.

Here it is.

Some detail shots.

I really enjoyed this one and how it came out. The Hobby Link interior is very nice, as all their sets have been. I highly recommend them. Another for the shelf of my growing ADA pieces collection.
