M1A1HA - Trumpeter 5 in 1 Kit

The kit has arrived. I originally was going to attempt a Ukraine Abrams but there is a better Ryefield kit, so I will use this for a basic USMC M1A1 HA from the Gulf War in overall sand color and look into the Ryefield kit after the first of the year. Off to was the plastic.

What is teh round thing with a piston port near the center of the package?

The round thing near the white string? That is the M1 Panther II turret.

Merry Go Round, for Marines.

I’ll show myself out…

Clever! And thanks! It still took me a few seconds to nuke it out after you told me! Good show!

One of the 5 options in the 5-in-1 package …

I have the predecessor of this one and some warnings are to be issued; the front shape of the turret is quite off and the plastic is really weird. I use Revell’s Contacta and that does not really work, on the tracks at least. Tamiya’s orange glue works better.

Unfortunately, the basic Trumpeter Abrams is pretty bad. The turret left front slope is too short and it throws the look of the turret off. Also, the way the wheels attach is pretty bad with rubber center caps. They look really bad.

Other than the roller, plow, and Panther II parts, it is junk. I would just keep them to add to another, better Abrams, and toss the rest.

I believe the USMC pieces were okay, at least before Meng brought their model out. Useful for the Dragon kits at the least.

Yes, USMC parts are usable as well. You can harvest a few other smaller parts as well, but the basic Abrams is junk.

Gee, with those useful parts, I’d say it’s not a bad deal for 24 bucks. And you get a paint mule to boot!

The only problem is to build a GW Marine M1A1 you don’t use the Marine parts. Marines used US Army stock tanks for the GW. The Marine options came after the war.

Without my glasses, i thought it was a BMP w/a weird KMT! LOLZ-

You did a great job on the M 114. I use to love shooting them up on TT VIII!
Well done,

Veterans!! Thanks :+1:

Can it be built decently? Yes. I used it to build several commission pieces back in the 2000’s. It makes for a decent 3 ft build (it looks pretty good at 3 ft away). It does need the left front face (drivers side if you will) face of the turret to be fixed…it is distractingly incorrect. If you want a more detailed build, a good up-close model, it is better to start with a different kit OR understand that there is a bit of work to do (some people like making silk purses from sows ears…I am one of them).

I am including a couple of pics of the builds I did to give you reference. Have fun building.

Thanks for proving my point! Very nice job on that “junk.”

I built it based on a piece of artwork Jody Harmon did for ARMOR magazine.
