What is the purpose of the metal grate on the right tail light of late model M1A2’s?
The grate is to protect the backup camera that is in the light housing on M1A2 SEP v2s. The little sliding plate is a cover on the lens.
That saved me asking the same question !!
A backup camera on an MBT… Took them long enough…
Leopard 2 have them for decades
But not the US, until now…

Thank You Gino. That would have come in handy when I was teaching FNG’s to drive Duce and a Half’s with trailers in Germany way back in the 70’s.
Colt said that the the bolt carrier of an M16 will not fit in the receiver backwards. Apparently, they never met an FNG.
We’ve had backup cams on the merkava for awhile. But Israeli driver’s are pretty bad…
