Hi guys,
I’ve recently bought the Takom M247 and would like to built it with the tc hatch open. But, I was hoping to add some interior detail, just to fill up that cavernous space. Unfortunately, there’s just about zilch online with regards to interior photos.
I’m not planning on replicating the turret interior, just enough to add some interest.
Would anyone know of any interior photos or diagrams?
Thanks in advance.
Paddy.
Don’t know how much this helps, but…
The actual crew area looks pretty small. It appears to be similar to a ZSU-23-4 where there are a bunch of screens and dials, etc. in front of the crew. The area around the hatches and on the side walls would have vision blocks, intercom boxes, lights, seat controls, radios, etc.
ZSU turret interior looking forward from operator’s seat/position. No idea who the goobers are, just lifted them from the web.
I bet a wall of instruments with a couple seats and other bits and bobs listed above would do it.
Hope to see you build it here.
Hello Paddy,
It has been a number of years, but, I think that I posted some interior turret shots on here or ML. They gave me a very nice tour at the museum on Fort Sill, Oklahoma and at Camp Robinson, Arkansas.
If you can check the archives, I will try to find the original ones. I can’t make any promises at the moment.
Another resource may be MSG James O’Leary (Ret). He worked at the Fort Sill Museum when he was in the Wounded Warrior barracks.
Respectfully,
Allen
Wow! Thank you all. That’s extremely helpful.
The videos do seem to prove what Gino had said about the crew being separated from the main guns by a wall of screens etc.
I will try and search the archive for Allens photos.
But this should get me going in the right direction. I will get some progress shots up as I move along.
Regards,
Paddy.
Glad they are useful
Dang, if that is how the interior is, then I’m glad the Sgt. York got canceled. I can’t see any indication of IFF or TV displays in there to figure out what the twin gun barrels are shooting at!
Sure, it has a large orange circular radar display in the middle, but even a small TV screen would help with some screen text to determine what the target is. No wonder the Sgt. York locked onto and shot up the fan blades (surely an enemy jet fighter’s engine fan blades!) of a porta-potty (and blasted the core container of feces into a misty supernova) much to the embarrassment of the US Army!
This is out at the Dixie Valley range it NAS Fallon, Nv. (Home Top Gun!) Been out there for decades. Here’s another video with some interior footage. I Flew Into an Active Military Test Range - YouTube NOTE: Good weathering tutorial also. This had been sitting out there (high Nevada desert) for 30+ years , 24/7/365. Freezing cold, blazing hot, rain, snow, 70mph blowing sand…
Too bad this idiot is as dumb as a box of rocks . Has no idea where he is and why the stuff is there. Dixie Valley range is a target area for laser designator training . No ordinance dropping. Though maybe if there had been live ordinance this idiot would have had a real exciting end to the video. ) north of NAS Fallon. Now used for special ops training too. Area was actually open to the public until a few years back. (explains the RV.) Also he comments about lots of rodent signs, which in that area means LOTS of BIG , well fed rattle snakes! Yeah, open that door…
I don’t know the videographer but heard him say in the video that he never reveals locations of his shoots to avoid vandalism.
That is not an M247 SGT York. I posted pics of a Soviet ZSU-23-4 interior as a contemporary example since I couldn’t find any M247 interior pics.
I agree that the folks at Ft. Sill are great. They gave me full access to their Linebacker several years ago when I scratch built mine, and let me climb all over it to take measurements and photos. I did do a pretty extensive walkaroind of the SGT York but never thought to photograph the inside, although I’m sure they would have allowed it. I just wasn’t that interested in a cancelled project, unfortunately.
Hello Paddy,
I am still trying to find what I have done with the original pictures, mate. Sorry for the delay.

Allen
Hello Robert,
I have found the staff at several museums most accommodating. The folks at Fort Bliss were outstanding, too. They opened up their M551 and turned me loose.

Its on a military base. Not a big secret. And you have to be REALLY determined to get to it. (Nearest "civilization " … if a place with 17 residents is “civilization”… is an hour’s drive.away) Course these days the guys with the guns will deter vandals. Plenty of desert to hide the bodies. (you could bury half the population of India out there with no one being the wiser. )

My mistake. Thanks for letting me know.
Just came across this…
