While at the museum, I noticed an oddity about the M26 they had on display.
There were vents in the barrel for use with a bore evacuator. However there was no attachment point for a bore evacuator. Thoughts?

I don’t know about the M3A1 90 mm gun, but the T119E1 (M36) gun of the M47 had no attachment points for the evacuator as such, though it did have a groove around the barrel just behind the gas ports. The evacuator on that gun attached to the threads that the muzzle brake is also on.
In addition to the post by @Jakko above.
The M26 did not have a bore evacuator, the upgrades/changes that came with the M26A1 was a better gun with bore evacuator.
I suspect the museum has used the barrel from an M26A1 on the M26 and gave it the double baffle muzzle brake from the M26,
or possibly they might be trying to “fix” a complete M26A1 to look like (VISMOD) an M26.
