I’m planning to build an M38A3 used un Viet-Nam. I have a doubt the machin gun on top of turret.
I have seen that in scale models, some place a MG in the top coupula whitout taking off the one instaled, but in real pics I doesn’t see the coupula with two MG (the instaled one and the top placed)
Possible, sure. Are you going to find many photos of it? Probably not. Safest is to either leave the gun in the cupola, or put it on top, but not both.
From what I learned the .50 ON the cupola was USUALLY the one from IN the cupola. Inside, the mount was cramped and a pain in the ass to use. (it looked good on paper!) Here is an excellent source for you. Patton Tanks in Vietnam – Mike's Research I like the one with twin.50s.
Most cases the .50 was the one from in the cupola relocated. But lots of options. Including twin .50s and .30 mount for loader. Patton Tanks in Vietnam – Mike's Research
I tend to steer clear of using models/ restored vehicles for reference. You are at the mercy of poor/no research or “but it looks neat!”- itis. Best bet is “real” photos. Same thing for the wading trunk. Itt looks cool, but rarely ,really used. (Photos seem to show it was only used in Vietnam by USMC at their “beach landing” at DaNang in 65.) ( M48A3, 1st Tank Batt. USMC. {with wading trunk} Camp Pendelton ,Ca, Landing Excercize.1973.)
It was, but the gun in the photo is not an M73. The receiver is too long and slab-sided, and the pistol grip is attached to the underside of the tube coming out of the back of the gun. All of this says M1919.
Yes, it is. You can clearly not see the air cleaner on the right mudguard — if it was there, it would be visible sticking up above the stowage bin. It also has the generator exhaust pipe to the left instead of to the right of the driver’s hatch.
