M4a1e8

I just kitbashed a tamiya M51 with the T23 turret of the Tamiya’s M4A3E8 to build a M4A1E8 as I was building it I was doing research into this variant of the Sherman searching to see if any were issued to units what i did was 12 were sent to a depot for the 12th Army Group now here goes my question since none were issued to troops so how would they have been configured and what kind of markings would they have had ?
Any help or pics would be greatly appreciated

After the war, some were issued to Army National Guard units. These belonged to the Wyoming Army National Guard (c.1952)

A few European countries received some as well in the 50’s (thanks to the Mutual Assistance Program) , like the Netherlands

…and some even stared in movies  :

This photo of a M4A1 76mm HVSS was taken in Spring/Summer 1945. the M4A3 behind it has 7th AD, 17th TB markings, but the A1 only appears to have painted out stars on the hull & turret sides. I found it on the Sherman Minutiae website page on large hatch M4A1s

Large Hatch M4A1

So some were actully issued?

Apparently so. But if any engaged in operations or actual combat before VE Day is unknown at this time.

I think i may decide to do mine in generic markings the way it sat in the depot before being issued to any unit makes it easier than trying to source unit markings

That might make a good diorama. The ordnance guys getting the vehicle prepped for issue with all the gear laid out.
