Noice. 
What material and length did you use for the spikes?

At firs, for hatches on the hull, i used stretched sprue, glued with revel contacta. Later, on the turret, i used copper wire, glued with super glue (gel). I found them more resistant to accidents, as they can bent, unlike plastic ones on the hull that tend to break. I can’t recall the lenght, but it is somewhere around 3-5mm.
