M60-quartet. 1 tank - 4 versions

The 500th “Kfir” Brigade was entirely comprised of Magach tanks. Same with the 401st “Iron Track” Brigade, before they replaced them with Merkava Mk4s in 1992.

That box is the intercom/infantry phone, used by ground troops to communicate with the tank crew. Tamiya modeled it off of the one used on the prototype and original m60 tanks, which were mounted directly on the fender. In service, they were usually mounted on a bracket that lifted them above the fender.
Here is an early one on the fender:

And… a picture of an M60 in masster I did not have yet! Thanks!

Ken made me do this… I had to keep the box, but on the right vehicle. So switched the mudguards.

I also tackled the issue with the M47 stowagebin. Made one myself, using the one from the to-be-build Tamiya kit. Plastic card, stretched sprue and sparesbox PE doodahs.

And I changed my mind again, since most Masster A1’s had the infrared light, not the xenon. So tore off the mount, adjusted an Israeli one and applied a lot of filler on the Tamiya kitparts.

Great topic!
LIke it very much because the Tamiya M60 was the first kit I did when restarting the hobby, and I painted my 9 LAV’s in different masster schemes…

That was my reaction!

Great thread this one, being a self confessed M60 fanatic!

The M60-kits come with a fording pipe, but was that thing ever used?
Can’t find any references on it?

The first photo might be from Lebanon, at the airport of Beirut. I think Marines were used to establish a safe perimeter there.

Is there a specific designation for those?
Might help finding info on them. Trying to find if those were used during exercises in Europe.

No special designation. All USMC M60 tanks could mount the snorkel and they came with all USMC tanks as BII (Basic Issue Item).

So only USMC?

Any M60 could be fitted with the snorkel gear. I have not seen any US Army tanks using them though.

I’d like to have a vote on tagging this thread or make a dedicated M48/M60 Series Reference Thread, much like we have for the M2 Bradley.

It would be great to have one place to have reference materials for the Paton in its many variations; from the American versions that a few of us veterans have served on, to all the foreign variants used by Israel, Turkey, Taiwan, etc…

First one id definitely Lebanon; second one must be Grenada.

Yup, misread the caption, fixed.

Another one (same tank) from Grenada with just the attachment and no snorkel fitted.

Go ahead. Anyone can start one. I just don’t know as much about M48s / M60s as I do Bradleys.
