Did the US ever paint the M47 in these colors? I’m thinking not.

No. All our M-47s were painted OD.

That particular M47 was probably a “Gate Guard”, which means it was tank put on display in front of a military installation before being replaced by a more modern version.

I think they’ve changed that old M48 to an M60, then into an M1A1.

Dan, you are correct. The M47’s were already long out of service before the MERDC pattern was officially adopted. It looks to me that this particular M47 received a homemade paint job. If you look at the bustle box, you can see what appears to be evidence of a spray can paint job where there is areas where the spray missed. The black “crows feet” along the side of the turret also appears to be made from a spray can.

The actual paints used were either applied with professional sprayers or applied by paint brush
