M88 Part Needed

Good Morning Everybody,
I got a little over aggressive and ended up breaking the shackle on the end on my M88 that I’m trying to finish up and I was wondering if anybody had this available so I can finish this up. My backup option is going to be too FAB one up but I’m not very good at recreating parts and would like to pick up the correct piece. I need part 57 and its the AFV kit. thanks for any and all consideration into this.

If its the loop you broke make one out of wire and glue to the pivot point of the shackle.

I’m sure that’s going to happen. It seems like every time I try this it looks like Picasso did the work. Ill try and see if I can pull it off.

Solder of the correct diameter will be the easiest to curve into shape.

I did not think about solder I guess I’m stopping by harbor freight, but my wife will not let me go alone. I lost my self-control at some point in my life. Thank you for the idea.

I’d mail you a piece but you’re probably in a hurry.
That said, I’ll be having dinner at Quncy’s in Florence on Friday.

I’ve been thru Florance, but I don’t get out of the springs too often.

I checked one of my M88A1 kits.

My solder is too thin to match that part. Evergreen 3/64" rod is the perfect diameter for that. Good luck getting it into that shape. In spite of what people will tell you, boilign water won’t do it. You need an oven - that’s what I use. Or you can go old skool like Shep Paine - stretch some sprue to the right diameter and quickly wrap it around a rod. It’ll take several tires but it will work. And you’ve probably get nearly a limitless amount of resource material.

Mike, is it the same size as the shackles seen on Abramses and M60s?

Depending on your tool kits a drill is the best and easy to find item to bend the wire around.

And I used the M88 light guard that you made ill get some photos up hopfully soon of the completed project so you can see your hard work being used for good.

Hi Mike,
The outer width is: 4.63mm. Height is 6.34mm.

The space shown below is 1.3 mm:

The top inner space is 3.15mm:

The beauty of CAD software is you can change the dimensions and sizes with some clicks of buttons if those dimensions are not suitable.

Ill get back to you in the next couple of days thank you for the response.

and the space between where the pin goes is .9mm
I think I can make this Abrams one work but last night somehow, I found the piece that broke off so I’m wondering in i can get it to glue back into place with out to much ugliness.

Good that you recovered that piece. Good luck. I think you can make it look OK.

One more M88 part question. Does anybody have any suggestions for what size chain to use on the piece that hold the front and rear cables for the boom?
