M880 Dodge CUCV Pickup

Just found these 3D printed M880 Dodge CUCV pickup kits on eBay. They look decent and are pretty reasonably priced. Only thing I see that doesn’t look right is the frame (looks too flat). If you are looking for early M800 series CUCVs though, they will work.

On a side note, the 3D printed kit doesn’t include clear parts (except headlights)

Just want to confirm these are 1/35 correct.

I picked up the late one and the molding is very nice. The two grille units are weird: one has Dodge and turn signals, the other has neither; the box picture has turn signals but no Dodge.
My MDNG unit had one in the back of the motor pool in 1988; it was replaced by CUCVs and a CUCV Blazer, both of which were superior trucks to work on… but that old Dodge never failed to fire up.

I guess the kit is giving you both grill styles, (fyi- Dodge trucks between 74 to 76 had no turn signals in the grill, 77-78 did along with DODGE stamped into the top)

Keep in mind that some of these trucks had blackouts and weight placards, usually mounted to the grill.

As for the box art, without DODGE stamped in along the top, it’s incorrect.

(Ps) I just looked at the “box art” It’s possible that the “DODGE” stamping is not visible. The grill is a single sheet of aluminum thats been stamped into shape and the Dodge name is usually stamped in shallow. With the civilian version, the letters are painted black to stand out, but the military version is simply painted over, making the stamping harder to see.

Keep in mind as well, the box art shows the vehicle painted in the three tone NATO pattern, with a significant portion of the grill in black.

As a side note, the NATO pattern was not typically used on most M880s in US service (The vehicles were retired before the NATO pattern was adopted -tho some versions of the M880 series remained in service and did receive the NATO pattern) M880s in foreign service are very likely to be painted in the NATO pattern. The M880 series in US service were most likely found in either a single overall green or MERDC and perhaps a few being painted blue in US Air Force service

When I finally get up the courage to build mind, it’s going to be MERDC because that’s what my National Guard truck was in. And I’ll go with the ‘Dodge’ grille; my memory does not extend to remembering if Dodge was stamped on my old MDNG truck or not.

I’d be interested in one of these 880s provided some cab glass was provided. I’ve had poor luck in the past in trying to add a curved windshield using clear plastic to a model truck.
