Hi all

I finally finished this rather large build. It’s the Meng Model C-HET carrying a captured Iraqi 1S91 Surn Kub Radar from Trumpeter.

Outstanding job Jacob! The paint job and weathering are fantastic! The details you’ve added to the truck are also great.

Can you describe some of the painting and weathering process? Love it

I have this kit in the stash (C-HET) and can’t wait to work on it. Very inspiring!

Well, as a base colour I use Tamiya paints, which are mixed until I’m satisfied with the colour.

As for weathering, I use different products, such as AK Interactive and MIG Products. I’m also in a process of changing from my trusted old Humbrol Paints to water based paints, which is a huge and quite scary phase in my modelling life. I’ve started using paints from Army Painters, which are actually very good and they also have a range of washes, which I’ve been using on this build.

It looks great overall. The weathering is right on. One small issue though. The MRE boxes you have on the truck are post-ODS and were not used until the mid-late ‘90s. ODS MREs were in a flatter box.

Again it looks fantastic.

I know what you mean when you have to switch from one brand of paint to another. I grew up using Humbrol paints and made the switch to Tamiya about 25 years ago, and now I’m probably gonna change over to AK Real Colors- another Lacquer based paint. Both spray excellent but AK has more variety of colors. I use Vallejo for my figure painting. I also use several AK and MiG weathering products.
