Hi all!
As per usual, an unusual name for an aircraft/mecha. The Super Ostrich originates from the Macross/Robotech universe, this trainer is fitted with fast packs to enable the craft to escape the earths atmosphere and to do space flight. I think in the episode that this appeared the “hero” flew Minmie to Jupiter to escape the pressures of her budding singing career. Not sure what the thing is about music and singing the Macross series, but I sure do like the aircraft and mecha!
Its quite an outlandish aircraft the can convert into Gerwalker and Mech modes.
For those who do not know what a Gerwalker is, see below.
This will be my follow on build, probably clipping a rooftop as it decends to battle the Zentradi in the streets of Macross City.

The build has begun, I forgot just how small braille scale is.
I gonna take a modular approach, it will be interesting how this is going to paint as I will base coating in in Mr Color 1200 black. I will then preshade same panels if the scale allows me to do this, then I’m going to apply the colour in faint misty layers and build it up into a motly used finish.
The swing wing is pretty cool.

Threw some amazing Mr Color 1500 sufacer for a base coat, amazing how the detail pops.
Started with the inside of the of the FAST packs with 2 shades of Alclad aluminium, sealed with gloss for pinwash.
Next was the main exhausts in Mr Color Steel. Using a light pressure like I used for the Alclad, has transformed the application.
Figuring out how to paint this kit has been a head scratcher, but I’m getting there.

It may appear that not much has happened, but the devil is in the detail. I touched up the lighter paint application as I thought it lacked in some places, put more sub-assembles together and started preparing the last bits for their orange mix paint job.
The font portion of the engine nacelles are assembled and the rear portion is in for its 2 part paint job. I’ll mask the light bits and apply the orange mix.
This build is very process driven with all the sub assemblies.

I have been beavering away, masking and paint with a bit of assembly.
WHilst putting the booster together, I noticed that they need some sanding. I used a new product filling in the joints gaps, Mr Dissolved Putty.
It went on easy with a brush, and appears to be working. I will only be able to tell when I touch up the paint.
I continued to dry fit assemble the engine nacelles with the FAST packs.
I may have to glue them together which will be a shame.

Onwards and upwards!
Yeah, I had to glue them together for strength and rigidity. A necessary evil.
They don’t look too bad assembled. Still have a number of bits to add, like wheel bay doors, attitude thrusters, gloss finish and pinwash.
Started on repairing the paint on the boosters and puting down a base coat on other bits.
Had to resort to some creative masking on some parts as pre painting was not an option. This entire build has been an excercise in masking.
Another lesson learnt in this build is better airbrush application, before I used to be quite heavy handed, with all the masking the application had to be accurate and delicate.
Time is running out, I need to accelerate to the finish line on Wednesday or Saturday for Eastbourne at the latest.
