Did the Hungarians use whitewash on their aircraft? Specifically FW-190Fs during the Budapest siege. I’m not finding photos, but research has not been exhaustive.

Tangential question: FW-190F-8 wing racks. Most photo show 2 (per wing) X ETC-50 racks with SD-50 bombs. I’ve heard mention of 250KG class weapons (1 per wing) . As far I have seen ETC 50s were rated for 50KG. (?) Wrong intel on the 250 kg bombs? Different rack? Adapter that allowed the weight of the 250 to be spread between both racks?

For what it’s worth (little enough as an authoritative source), the Wikipedia article on the FW 190 lists the F-8/U1 through F-8/U3 variants as having ETC 503 underwing racks, capable of carrying SC 250 bombs. From more reliable sources, Eduard has a PDF about their 1:48 FW 190F-8 kit, which notes “Variations were rounded out with the possibility of mounting ETC 503 racks, enabling the use of 250kg bombs under each wing.” and the IPMS Stockholm Modeller’s Guide to Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Variants, Part II, notes that the F-8/U1 through F-8/U4 could mount the ETC 503 racks on the wings allowing carriage of the SC 250 bombs.

Great info. What bomb racks were used on the ME-262? Only designation I find is “Viking Ship”. As far as I can tell they carried 250kg bombs. ETC-503s modified to fit the shape of the 262s fuselage? Close to the 503? (have access to a set of racks from a Tamiya Me-262, if they will work.) Looks like Eduard has them but then I have to buy a whole kit for 2 racks.

They would be the ETC 504/Schloß 504, referred to as “Wikingerschiff” (‘Viking Ship’) from the curved lozenge shape of the pylon, resembling a plan view of a Viking longship, incorporating an aerodynamic shroud giving it the shape, covering the anti-sway bars. The photo below is of Me 262 V7, Wk.Nr. 170303 ‘V303’, seen here with an inert bomb, and fitted with Wikingerschiff bomb carriers

Well, solved the bomb rack issue. Tamiya’s 1/48 Me-262 kit has the “viking ship” and regular ETC 503 bomb racks. Have a “spare” sprue ( D-sprue) ordered up. See where this goes. Now, anybody know if the Hungarians use winter white wash on their aircraft? Specificly FW-190F-8s, winter 44-45.
