Any ideas on making large caliber (12" and up) water splashes in 1/700 scale?

There are any number of approaches to depict shell splashes. Here is a simple way which might work for you. This is an explosion gas column rather than a shell splash, but the look is similar.
I started with the basic shape carved from florist’s foam…
…then covered in Celluclay (essentially paper maché) for texture…
…then painted. Easy!
