I recently purchased a 1/70 scale ERTL/IMAI Mayflower kit with sails and a 1/70 ERTL/IMAI Golden Hind kit without the sails. My question is could I use the Mayflower’s sails on the Golden Hind kit? Are these two ships "similar"enough so that it’d look accurate?
For a given spar length and distance to the next spar (or the deck for the lowest sail on a mast), the sails for ships of the same period are largely the same. It’s only when the ships get larger with more complex rigs that the shape and running rigging can change noticeably between different ships.
Thank you for your advice and response. I’d like to start the Mayflower so that I can complete it by Thanksgiving of this year but the Golden Hind has always been one of my favorite ships so I’d really like to have it displayed under sail.
