To all you F-4 officianados. Can the MENG F-4E kit represent an Israeli F-4E out of the box?
Thanks for any help.

I would assume that you could do an early IDF F-4. Yom Kippur War era for example. The IDF would eventually go on to add their modifications during their service life. Unfortunately, I don’t have a list of those or where, but the most obvious was the IFR probe just aft of the rear cockpit. Whether this kit has this I don’t know. Have yet to actually come across one of these kits in the flesh to have a look in the box.
A good quick reference is Ospreys Israeli F-4 Aces book.
Thanks for the response. You mean Inflight Refueling probe?
Check references for the flap/slat configuration of early Israeli Phantoms and if they match the Meng kit configuration. They did use unmodified aircraft as mentioned earlier.
Yes that’s it. You can see it here on this one. This F-4 also has the late slatted wings. I’d check that against photos of the aircraft you plan on building. Most of the initial order were early wing aircraft. Some of those had the short cannon muzzle.
Later deliveries had the longer muzzle, slatted wings and I think some had the wing mounted TISEO camera? There was an emergency delivery made during Yom Kippur straight from the USAF inventory that arrived stock and still in their SEAC cammo!
There were Israeli Phantoms with TISEO. Most of the aircraft were operated with the SEA camo during YKW.
I can share some photos later when I get access to my references.
Thanks, looking at the kit, it doesn’t come with the refueling probe or TISEO
The probe is an Israeli modification.
Yes, understand. Looks like I’d have to go aftermarket shopping. I guess I’ll do the USAF light grey/dark grey Hill II scheme.
Check this article, it is by a very knowledgeable person on IDF Phantoms
Thanks for the links. I find this one very interesting.
Very useful. Think I may have to get around to building one from the several E’s in my stash.
I’m sure I’ve seen resin IFR probes and TISEO’s from a couple of different AM manufacturers. I reckon this kit would be a good basis for an IDF project.
I checked the Meng kit and it is possible to do an IDF F-4E out of the box (except decals and paint of course).
The Mavericks included in the kit can also be used. Just check photos for the correct antennas on the spine.
Notice one aircraft with TISEO and one without.
And how about a sharkmouth
Nice find there. I’ll do some digging on the web as well for decals.
