Meng T72B3M with mine clearing system

Started this about a week ago. The base kit has been around for almost 10 years now but has had new parts add for several versions along the way. This is the latest iteration with the bagged ERA and mine plow. Some of the smaller parts are showing their age with flash but overall the build goes together well. The tracks are Indy workable and go together with little difficulty once you get past the clean up stage. A jig is included for both the tracks and to align the swing arms. A brief search found only typically Russian green vehicles so that is what I have gone with. Since I’ve only painted the lower hull and running gear I can still go camo if I can find some photos later. Anyway, the following photos aren’t too exciting just the lower hull with some mud. Comments welcome and thanks for looking.

Nice start.

Thanks. It’s just been the past year or so that I’ve tried my hand at more heavily weathered look. Still learning and try to get more comfortable with the process.

I have this kit in my stash. I only have to start and complete the other 200 plus kits in my stash before I get to this one.

Looking at photos all I have been able to find are of all green vehicles. If anyone can find examples of these in camouflage it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Painted and weathered with an overall dark wash and light dry brushing. Need to decide how much dust, dirt, mud, etc. to add. Kind of like the way it looks now so that would mean just some dried dirt and dust. With the mine clearing system attached I would go for a more heavily weathered look, mud, heavier dirt and dust and some splattering. Will probably still this aside for a few days and think about it.

Pretty trouble free build. Getting the slats on the rear aligned was a bit tricky. Care must be taken when attaching the 4 mounting points making sure they are properly squared up.

The only thing I don’t like about the kit is the angle of the barrel. Only one dust cover for the mantle is provided and it sets the angle of the barrel. Usually two covers are included, one like the one in this kit, and another that sets the barrel at a more flat trajectory which is more proper for a direct fire weapon.

Maybe the angle of the barrel looks more realistic if the mine clearing system is added?
Want to keep the barrel away from harm?

Came excellent DV. Love your finish

Possibly. You might be right. In the stowed position the barrel does need to be raised. But what if one opts to have the system deployed?

It would have been nice if the kit contained 2 - 3 options for the barrel angle.
I did a quick Google image search for T72B3 and got a lot of photos from various non-combat situations and almost all of them show the barrel angled upwards.
Some photos were from shows or the Russian tank contest.
I get the impression that they drive towards combat with the barrels raised and
bring them down to aim.
If Meng studied phots it does not surprise me that the barrel is pointing up.
