Takom kit has two types of wheels. I want to mix them. Was this ever done? Also need to confirm that it should have anti skid. Thanks.
Yes^2
Mixed types of road wheels is definitely possible but the circumstances where it will happen is usually where a damaged wheel or two are replaced with a different type due to the originals not being available. So two types mixed willy-nilly across one tank wouldn’t look right but one or two in one area would be more likely if that makes sense
Thanks. I understand.
Just avoided a potential screw up. Wanted to mix wheel types. Made 2 of the simplified. Test fit them with the other wheels and discovered they’re not the same diameter. The simplified wheels ride higher. Not really a problem with a working suspension but the kits suspension is fixed. Each type wheel shares 3 parts and of course there are no extras. Luckily I was able to disassemble the 2 wheels without damaging the shared parts. Lesson learned.
Almost ready for paint. Finishing up the MGs and tow cables. Going to mask and paint the barrel stripe. Won’t get much done this weekend, going to NCMSS in DC on Saturday. Doing wife stuff on Sunday to keep her happy.![]()
And yes I know it should have anti skid.

Painted and ready for gloss coat and decals. Masked and AB the barrel stripes. For some reason they always look right while I’m masking them, but when painted seem too wide.
Thanks for this thread! I seem to have made AFVs from the IDF my favorite armor modeling subjects, thus, anything posted about them is of great interest to me. I have many of the Desert Eagle books which have great photos of IDF armor, but some of the ones posted here in this thread I have not seen before, so again, many thanks for that. I have the 1/35 border Model Merkava Mk. 2D with full interior, as yet unbuilt, and I’m hoping that it has both types of wheels so I can mix them up as the photos show occasionally happened. These tanks always seem to take an incredible beating, and they likewise seem so often filthy from fighting or training in the field, and gives us modelers so many options to create interesting vehicles. Good luck to the OP on the completion of your 2D, and I hope you post photos of the completed tank!
Got the decals on. Wash on the hull is complete. Thought I’d post a photo of the turret in progress. Wash applied and worked forward of the hatches. Wash around the hatch areas put on about an hour ago. Once “dry” it will be worked. Area aft of the hatch area is the raw base color. Quite a contrast to the areas after the was has done its job.
Finally finished. Very nice kit. No issues that I can recall. OOB build. Only lightly weathered, dusting doesn’t really show well in the pictures.
Very nice results! Well done
Very nicely done. THis reminds me yet again, to get off my lazy duff and paint my Takom Mrk 2B
Well Done! I have one in the stash, and this build just makes me want to get started now.
As I said a trouble free build. No anti skid texture though. Opted not to do it as I liked all the bits and bobs one the turret and didn’t want to distract from them.
Excellent Merk there DV. I have one from Takom as well but it’s in the queue behind so many other projects.
You have some very nice subtle tones of color on the model that really make the many details of this machine pop! Again excellent job!
Thanks for all the kind comments and likes.
