Am I the only one who finds the “Unidentified Unit” schemes frustrating? I’d almost rather they gave you a “factory generic” scheme instead.

“Unidentified Unit” usually means I can’t help but think company didn’t do much research on the camo or markings or both.

In my opinion, when possible, model makers should publish a reference photo for each finishing scheme in the instructions. If a photo cannot be published, include a citation with the finishing scheme, allowing the builder to look up the source document with the photo. This would solve the ‘unidentified unit’ problem because model builders and historians could collaborate to gather more information and perhaps discover the missing information.
Also, I plan to purchase one of these.

In their defense, when the Germans stopped applying markings to the extent they did previously it would make identifying who went where once the battle was over and the wrecks were tallied up a bit difficult. Granted, you could give a close guess if you knew what units were in the area at the time of the battle.
I generally just apply an approximate camo scheme unless it is a specific vehicle that is significant for some reason, like Wittman’s Tiger.
