Missing King Tiger Found in German Lake?

It seems a bit sad to say this Tank will never be recovered? There is only a very small number (8?)of these in preservation. It no doubt could be located with some effort, and recovered if the determination and resources were available.

Just opinion, I think a Panzer IV was fairly recently valued at ~4 million US, I could see a real King Tiger command three times that with a rich private collector. At some point salvage might be feasible for a rich foreign collector or a museam that’s back accordingly.

I know the place, its actually a dam that was destroyed by the dambusters. Honestly I dont think its there. The water levels were preaty low last year in late sommer and the rest could be easily searched by a side scanner. The lake is not that big. There are specialised bomb disposal teams and Marine combat divers specialised in this sort of work, who do search dives as training. The area was probably already searched. Edit: forget rich collectors, this is Germany, if its found, the Bundeswehr will roll in with heavy equipment and send the King to Munster. Its a weapon by law.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know what is happening with the Wheatcroft collection King Tigers? I read a while back he has 2. I think one is being restored by his people who restored his Panther, but nobody needs 2. My guess is someone has bought the other.

This guy, Mark Felton, is well-known for favouring hype rather than real research. Starting of by quoting as his “source” a number of unnamed on-line discussion fora is a big red flag. Anything he produces should be taken with an ocean’s-worth of salt grains.

Very true :+1: He’s about a National Inquirer level source of information.

However, even a blind hog can occasionally stumble over an acorn.

Is this the same journalist that reported seeing Elvis in the same UFO as Hitler ?

I recal this guy using info from a discussion on ML without giving any credit to the OP.

One of only few dislikes I gave on YT.

All that sound about on par for Felton’s tabloid level material.

I know what you mean, I have seen some reports of the targets from the Dam Buster Raid, then and now and never heared about a missing King Tiger. It must be possible to find out with the lists from King Tiger losses. I have read a book about the Jagdpanther and there was a chapter with every ever build Tank with its “Fahrgestellnummer” and the info in which unit it served and what happend to it. I’m sure something like that exist to the King Tiger too. But I think too that there is’nt one of them

I just saw a clip (was it HR TV ?) That the lake is actualy used by BW to train paraschute jumps into water. They are then picked up by specialised boats. With that said, the Kingtiger story is even less plausible for me.
