Modelling armour in Ukraine crisis

Regarding farm tractors towing military vehicles, Hasegawa does modern 1.35th scale Yanmar tractors, possibly others. No idea if Yanmar ever had a dealer in Ukraine. They also do some Hitachi construction vehicles.

Presumably the “F” Putin 2S1 above was abandoned with whatever munitions it may have had.
And since I still have three 2S1’s in my stash, I definitely know how one of them is going to be portrayed, only without the blue edit.

I have mentioned that in one of my previous posts. Looks like Yanmar tractors can be seen in Ukraine :

But I’m not sure the YT5113A is sold there…I would rather pick up a Belarus/MTZ from Balaton.

Isn’t it an export version, not used by the Russians ?

Says it was both for the Russian Army and for export

This Wikipedia article:

says that the T-90MS is a modernization (M) of the T-90S which was export only
but the T-90S was later adopted by the Russian Army as T-90A

The version history of the T-90 seem to be just as convoluted as the T-72 …

This is not a factory product, this is a garage assembly: “… a man “crossed” LuAZ and Zaporozhets. Photos of 2004 from Tuapse …”

By the way, both brands were produced in Ukraine.

It’s extremely ugly seen from the rear as well

I believe an ID feature of any of the T90 versions is the remote control cupola characterized by a fairly large sight head as well as an anti aircraft sight projecting from the side.

Certainly has potential for the M … the images seem to changes from one to another and then back again when you look at all the images available … and probably a lot of mis-identified ones as well …
I haven’t seen a 90MS/C yet, which I think have the RWS to the rear.

But as Sean said, I cant see the large sight head on it.
And lack of extended turret bustle.

You guys are right, the turret is wrong for a T90. This is a T72B3M.

With both combatants using pretty much the same kit with slight variations here and there, it would be interesting to see the ratio of blue on blue that occur … not that we probably ever will.

Ukrainians are using primarily T-64 and T-80 tanks. Whatever T-72s they may have are old type without any post Soviet updates such as the new double pin tracks or Kontakt 5 ERA. While the Russians are mostly using T-72/T-90 and some T-80 tanks. The Russian army did not keep the T-64 in their inventory.

I don’t know all of my T-90’s, but I don’t think that’s any version of one. The armor package along the front of the turret appears staggered - at least not in a straight line. My guess is a later T72 variant.

Edit: I guess if I’d finished reading the thread I’d have discovered that it is indeed not a T-90.

You’re correct. It’s a T72B3M.

Yeah I get that. Im thinking of 2km + enagements covered in mud and crap and night scenarios with fluid battle lines thrown in and a new gunner in panic … Thats how the only destroyed Ch2 blue on blue happened. (new gunner in a panic does not apply to this Ch2 contact)
