This L119 105mm howitzer which were donated to Ukraine by the UK has Australian origins - after it was withdrawn from service in Australia it was sold to a British company and then apparently purchased by the UK Government specially for the Ukrainian army.

Glad to see those Leyland Dafs getting repurposed…
Makes you think how much kit is in storage waiting for something like this.
Probably near end of life, gets it off your books in a legit way, saves money trying to scrap it, and probably Military will get a tax return on it as it’s been donated…
Lugershall was one place that was full of crap like that in storage happily rusting away
In both cases above, the trucks were sold to the Ukrainians…

Ludgershall is gone now, emptied and the buildings demolished. There are only rail sidings left. I was just up the road in Upavon for the last 5 years of my service.
I wonder if they are bought from the relevant MOD’s (British & French) or civilian disposal companies? I would like to think they got a good price on them. When Jordan received Challenger 1’s they paid next to nothing for them(I have heard of the princely sum of £1 per wagon) but then paid for the spares and tech/training support. The last batch of wagons were free and this fact caused quite a stir in parliament.
When I grow up, I wanna be a HIMARS
