Modelling armour in Ukraine crisis

soviet era tanks made real battles
in snow and rasputitsa

we are waiting for the west to see them on the fields for once

to much speaking for west vehicles parked in european ports
not mentioning the invensible crews

so you can laugh and bla bla all you want but at the end of the days for one year they have proven what they are capable off

Do you have any idea about how much damage that turret can do when it comes down?
That flying turret is a lethal weapon …

Um tanque de guerra sendo desintegrado por um míssil em câmera super lenta

Combat loaded T-72 tank (during testing) destroyed by an ATGM. This one is a “Top Attack” missile; being that it will guide itself to the top of the turret, where theoretically, the armor is thinnest, then detonate downwards… Pop goes the turret.

During all of the Arab/Israeli wars, the loss of Soviet designed tanks vs Western designed tanks was what about ~5+ destroyed Soviet tanks for each Western tank destroyed?

Proof positive, the Soviet tanks were 2nd rate ~50 years ago. Those old Soviet death traps haven’t improved with time.

I do believe the old T55’s & T62’s will have some limited use on the battle fields…providing indirect fire support & infantry support. They probably won’t survive long given the lethal environment, thin top armor and myriad of weapons designed to exploit that weaknesses.

With that said, look forward to seeing lots of photos of ERA protected T55’s. Seriously cool looking tank :sunglasses:

In anycase, @Soviet I appreciate the excellent pictures you provide. They are outstanding.

Gents, keep it civil and the above posts will stay. They are bordering on off-topic political BS. We all know any tank can be destroyed, none are invulnerable. Focus on the vehicles and not the politics and all will be well.

We sort of got a preview of the T-62’s capabilities thanks to the IDF destroying them by the bushel.

I answered before I saw Armor_Buff’s response. Yeah - what he said.

It’s basically an article saying that Cougars, Strykers, Chally 2s and Marders have now arrived in Ukraine and getting ready to help the fight …
The lead image is a row of all those wagons lined up in a photo shoot …:+1:

And that Stryker, Hmmm

History class 101

Well hopefully this strategy has been figured out by hot dog boy. Wonder if a work around has been figured for the stand off distance?

Without forgetting the 2 wars in Iraq, even there when the various Soviet vehicles found themselves in front of the western tanks there was little to do for them, ok this time we are not in a desert with very few opportunities to hide but still the odd are in western favor…MHO

Coalition forces driving across open ground to engage dug in turrets only showing, Iraq knowing they are coming.

True but in Ukraine they have forests and line’s of tree’s ,more construction even in non-urban area’s that are a lot better than a hole in the sand in a completely open spaces, more place to hide and closer combat.

I think the technological gap still helps a lot Ukraine but less than in a desert environment.
