Mospeada VR-052F/T Variable Type

I’m still contemplating how to recover my G6 build (step up to the plate, so to speak), looking for a new job (life sucks at times - got retrenched at the end of last year), but on the bright side, a blast from my Robotech past…… a 1/12 Mospeada VR-052F/T variable type.

Imagine a motorcycle that transforms into power armour!! What is there not to love!!

In my down time I have started on this beaut!

This I will build deployed in the mech config. I have another, the Blowsperior VR-041H Variable Type that will be build as “biker” and “bike”.

These mechs are throwback from the Robotech mashup of Macross and similar animated series that was to become Robotech.

Anyway, till later!

Back again so soon….

I’ve been working on the sub-assemblies so far. The legs are not fully assembled yet as I make up my mind how they will be painted.

The two vector thrust units form part of the propulsion assemblies.

I may take some licence on the colour scheme and follow something more akin to the box art as the colours in the colour guide look very pale. (similar to the plastic colour).

I will need to look at filler for al the joints and gaps.

Isn’t this fun??

Till later.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada were the three anime series that were mashed together by Harmony Gold to make Robotech; this was necessary for them to sell the localization to US TV because networks won’t buy a series for syndication unless it has, IIRC, at least 60 episodes.

Yeah, a source for continued rebuke and condemnation as well as a love for all things mecha!!

Still can’t wrap my head around the notion of Macross always having the singing at the core of the storey, but boy, are those mechs amazing or what.

I still love the fact that some of the mecha used on licence in the Battlemech/Battletech universe started out in in Robotech/Macross.

Anyway, all history.

Just wish they’d be able to make a Battlemech movie series if weren’t for all the legal issues surrounding who legally owns what.

Onwards an upwards!!

That is a blast from the past. Be fun to have all that Genesis Climber Mospeada stuff in 1/35 scale even if none of it is really works.

More like ‘used without license’ – in the original box for “Battledroids” I used to have, there were two polybagged model kits of mecha from the ‘Fang of the Sun Dougram’ anime series, then after FASA got sued by LucasArts over their use of ‘droids’ in the name and had to change it to ‘Battletech’, they got sued again over their wholesale lifting of mecha designs from ‘Robotech’ for the game (including their pewter miniature line), and had to do a rename and rework, changing the art in the rulebook.

As I was saying……plenty of debate, but much loved.

There has been progress….

The main frame and “engine” off to the left.

The “engine” slides in to a recess as the frame takes shape as I try to create the “power frame” for the build to glue together for painting……

Flipped over with front arm for front wheel & “vector thrust” wheel hub. Some parts are not used in the “mech” mode.

“Side cheeks” + “handle bars” along with forward modules fitted.

Folded up, ready to receive the operator……I think :face_with_spiral_eyes:

My brain is melting………………..:exploding_head:

WOW!! What a fiddle, normally it’s straight forward to follow instructions, even if there are no English text, but damn, this is a mission even with their lovely photo’s.

Anyway, I’m pretty happy with my efforts. I have ideas on how I am going to achieve my chipped and weather look.

I finally figured it out!!

Got my head around how the mechanism works and how the “mech” deploys.

I stuck the torso section in and fixed the the powered armour to it.

Put the arms and legs on to see how it looks. Pretty impressive!:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

There is a whole lot of sanding and filling in to be done to improve the finish before primer and base colour.

Till next time!

I managed to throw some paint at it. Had issues when trying out my chipping cheat using masking paint, pulled all the paint off.

Anyway its a start, I will probably have to resort to the sponge method for the chipping.

Till next time!

The painting process is about done.

As you can see the decals are going on and I’m about to attempt the anime face of “Scott Bernard” in the helmet.

This has been a fun, interesting build. I have the sister kit, the VR-041-H Blowsperior.

I guess that is a play on words, mimicking the 1925 Brough Superior - again a fun take on the motorcycle theme.

Till later then, when this should be fully assembled and weathered.

Well, nearly there. I used the sponge technique which is quick and easy and I’m pretty happy with the results.

Still more assembly required and additional weathering. Beyond that, I’m pleased.

Till next time.
