Hi Folks, I have started my second aircraft Build. My first was Airfix 1/72 B-24 Liberator kit. I struggled to complete that but enjoyed the build…Based on suggestions given here, I have selected this old Tamiya kit.
It was a good suggestion and the kit fit and engineering is superb… I was not looking for accuracy and just wanted to learn the build sequence and the practice painting…
Tried my first seat belts using Tamiya masking tape and buckles using copper wire. Decided that going forward I will get AM parts. Not worth the time with my 52 year old eyes…
NICE work! I have built Hasegawa and Eduard but never Tamiya, may try it sometime as I like the Tamiya fit. To help out your 52 year old eyes consider an Optivisor, it has done miracles for my 68 year old eyes especially since I do a lot of 1/144 and 1/350 scale models. You are only as old as you want to be, I’ll never grow up, may get older but still be young! John
Don’t sell your self short. Those seatbelts look pretty solid. AM is nice for the convenience, but there is a certain satisfaction from cobbling things together.
The 109e is such a great looking plane. Glad to see your working on this. I’ve done a few Tamiya 109Es in 1/72 and they really just fall together. Very nice. I’ve thought about doing a 1/48 one because I like their 1/72 ones so much.
Hi @JOHNien,
Thanks for the kid words and the encouragement. I have Optivisor with a low magnification for want of working distance… Since you mentioned this, I realize I should go for the high magnification. Thanks again John
Have a Great Day
Excellent fit, I think I will get one more and build a different colour scheme… How is the Swiss boxing? For this price, I think one of the best to practice new skills on…
@Canmedic Thank you for your kind words. Scratch building sure is satisfying… Happy that you liked the belts… I was looking for just etched buckles alone… Hope will find something… If just buckles are available we can make better seat belts i think…
@phil2015 Thanks for the reply and yes you should pick this up… I am planning to get few more… Best to practice new techniques without worrying about fit and engineering etc… If you want you can enhance it to any extent…
@HGBARNES Yah… I remember the Liberator everyday… Thanks for the kind words. Have a Great Day.
Please share your comments and which area needs fixing (If possible). Most of the misadventures happen during the next steps which I will start after a few days…
Thanks for watching and Have a Great Day
Did some weathering and with little bit more work, I can call this complete. I am happy how this 2nd model has turned out.
Following are yet to be completed…
Little bit dust on the wheels
Replace rigging
Glue and fix the flaps
