So, How is Pete Pigseth going to Explain this One…Or maybe He needs to have A few first…

Navy said the aircraft was lost when the aircraft carrier was emergency maneuvering to avoid a missile attack. The plane was being moved and they lost control of it.

This is a picture of the possible deck lean during these type of manouvers.

If I were him and trying to explain it, I would explain that operational accidents happen, as well as that he’s only been in the role for a hundred days trying to redress 4 years of…ah, ummm…you decide for yourself.

Greg, thank you for the post.

Folks, I posted that meme (from a retired CV crewman) because I thought it was humorous. It can lead to some good discussion about the operations and risks our carrier crews in particular, and our military in general, have had to deal with in the past, present, and undoubtedly future. Let’s not turn this into something else with political nonsense and ad hominem attacks.

Fantastic meme & picture!

More than a missle attack, there was also about a dozen drones involved.

One previous attack ~ June, 2024 is said to have gotten the missle within roughly 650 feet of hitting  the US super carrier targeted.

The ships attacked by the Houthi’s are at some real risk and have to stay sharp. Bad part the Chinese are probably collecting a gold mine of information.

In a hot combat zone like the 1st island chain near Taiwan, survival of a US super carrier was estimated to about ~24 to 72 hours.

China deployed their DF21 (now apparently they have a df-26) anti- carrier ballistic missile about 15 years 20 years ago. I recall USN’s Proceedings Magazine had a cover showing a carrier that had been hit by one In 2009. (Found it! https://www.airandspaceforces.com/PDF/MagazineArchive/Documents/2013/December%202013/1213china.pdf)

Supposedly, the missile has the range to hit our bases in japan, so our carriers are not even safe docked there. Hearsay states that our SPY radar will not let anything get past it, the question is if our missiles will be able to make the interception in time. If I recall correctly, that was a similar problem with Patriot back in Desert Storm; it intercepted the Scuds but the triggering for the warhead was too slow.

I’ve read that some analysists and theoreticians claim that attacking our aircraft carriers are akin to launching a nuke at us, because the loss of a billion dollar resource with 5-6,000 Americans on board would create a demand for retribution nationwide that could not be resisted by our politicians. I think the American people don’t take the houthis serious, but they’ve succeeded in hitting ships at sea with ballistic missiles. The country needs to prepare itself to possibly wake up to a serious shock some morning.

Anyone here who has ever had a cat in their house get in on their model building or display areas can completely appreciate this photo
:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

And yes, keep this thread light hearted please, since the reality is quite the opposite.

Back when I was younger, we had a cat that took a dislike to a Phantom I’d done. Going so far as tip-toeing around other things to tip it off the shelf! Survived several crashes until the main gear finally snapped.

Before that we had a hamster that chewed the head off a Panther tank commander. Suffered a few nips trying to get it out of his mouth. They have surprisingly sharp teeth!

The first post is definitely the Tomcat’s Revenge on the Hornet

Thanks for the link to the article. Briefly, those are probably part of why the new Ford class carriers have significantly greater EW capabilities.

We should have kept the F-14 Tomcat around and gave it a new hypersonic missle system in place of Phoenix just for their Ding-flung-dung missles.

The first thing i thought of was “Gilligan you big Dummy!”

And it’s how we know for certain that the Earth is round — if it were flat, the cats would have pushed everything off the edge by now.

So yer cat took a dislike to your Phantom and knocked it off the shelf…..That’s because it wasn’t a Tomcat!
