It is really amazing that there isn’t a good 1/700 USS Arizona kit out there. Maybe this will be the one…! 
I thought the Dragon effort was pretty good. Enlighten me on what is wrong with that kit.
It depended on which iteration you bought. They all had the same basic parts, but the first had terrible metal castings of the main turrets, and worse observation fighting tops which were made of some kind of hard rubbery substance. The second release was all styrene parts with some limited and not very good quality PE, and brass main gun barrels. The third release was similar and included a few Japanese bombers. None of the moldings were exceptionally great, but not bad considering they were from 2002. There were numerous inaccuracies which were eventually addressed with 3D parts from various companies. You could end up with a fairly accurate model with a new wooden deck, 3D turrets, superstructure, funnel, observation tops, secondary and tertiary guns, a PE set (originally meant for the Hobbyboss kit which was much worse), and some scratchbuilding. So, a really decent model could be finished for some $200+ dollars.
A state-of-the-art kit without having to spend on extras would really be appreciated.

Probably, but it was a different color, and totally inappropriate for such parts. You would be very lucky (or unlucky) to have bought that particular release as it dates back to the first few years of this millennium! The Dragon Arizona was roughly on a par with releases from Pit Road, Trumpeter, et al., so was acceptable 25 years ago, but Flyhawk, the new-comer, raised the bar of injection sytrene to incredible heights, and there are a couple of resin, and 3D Arizona releases. Personally, I don’t like resin kits, but I do use 3D upgrades.
I was hoping Flyhawk would release a 1/700 Arizona, but Triumph beat them to it. This Triumph release, from the CAD views, looks very nice, as long as the price is reasonable. Triumph usually produces resin, or 3D models, but the description on Facebook claims it is styrene.
Update on Triumph Arizona: the posting on Facebook claimed the model is styrene, but a posting on Ship Model Forum claims it’s resin. ??? 
Biggles. Based on your information, I believe to have the first iteration. Your right, the gun houses(turrets) look rough and that hard plastic for the observation housings look rough and clunky. I will wait for more info on the Triumph Models version. Thanks for your input.

I wouldn’t touch the Hobby Boss kit with a ten foot pole (maybe just to hit it!). I would rather stick hot needles in my eyes 
than to attempt what that modeler has done! Actually his results look better than the Dragon kit!

Thanks Valentain, for posting that incredible video. That Hobby Boss kit is a disgrace, but the video shows what commitment, skill, and sheer effort can make of even that pig of a kit!
Let’s just hope the new Triumph kit will do justice to that great ship…
