Hello I stumbled across a new set for the Tamiya HMMWV series by a brand called Liam modelling on Evil bay…It looked interesting so I ordered one and figured I’d share it on here for everyone.
It came very quickly in about a week and a half from Korea. It is packaged very well in a sturdy flip top box. Inside there were 2 ziploc bags wrapped carefully in bubble wrap and one sheet of paper instructions with both sides printed.
Outer detail is excellent! The one issue I have is the lack of interior detail on the fabric doors and rear wall.
The shelter itself is well printed with only the rear and front walls cast seperately. These slide right into place once the backs are sanded from the print points. The ladder is also really nice.
Last is the new rear bumper which I think is OK but I plan to use one I think has better detail from 3D micro kosmos
This is a nice set but the price is a little high. I paid $50 US plus shipping but it’s a unique and easy set to work with it seems. Once I start to put it together I’ll post more photos of the assembly and fit with the Tamiya kit.
The 4-door soft top has been around for many years from Italeri. The soft top parts are really nice. You can leave the rear part off and make just the cover over the seats pretty easily. The top also fits the new ICM kits as well.
The Italeri kit has noticeable errors. The ribs in the bed are too narrow. That may not be quite as noticeable as the absolutely fictional diagonal depressions at the rear on each side. There are a few other issues I can’t remember off the top of my head. Of course if you leave the soft top on you can hide a lot.
I didn’t find the folds on it particularly convincing. YMMV.
One never knows. My track record has been pretty good for well over a decade though, with the notable exception of the FAASV, which actually did come out as well, albeit in the wrong scale.
Yes that should be easy enough…About the avenger set is it just me or does that look like the Academy kit as a base model? If so then the dimensions would be off for the Tamiya kits…
That is correct. And it will have that same incorrect diagonal rib that is all but impossible to correct outside of hiding it.
And as far as the M998 goes, MIG did a conversion for it, but the rear portion of the top did not mate up with the doors particularly well, leaving an untidy gap.
The Italeri (and first Academy copies) humvee are off in size from a few milimeters … i checked dimensions more than 20 years ago and was so happy when Tamiya did an accurately sized version.
