For those interested - the plane featured in the cover is “Tubarao”, tail number 44-40101, of the 491st Bomb Group.

The “WW” markings on the inside of the right side vertical stabilizer, denoted the plane as a “War Weary” - no longer a combat aircraft, because of thew excessive wear and tear on the plane.
