I’m interested in upgrading my compressor does anyone have any recommendations ? I want a tank and quite . I’v read that " No Name " isn’t a bad choice . Thanks in advance.
I recently got the “No Name” AG-426 compressor. I like it so far. My first compressor with a tank. Works great to this point. No pulsing air, and it is pretty quiet. “No Name” is marketed by Spraygunner.com so I feel fairly safe in the purchase.
Cant go wrong with a “Craftsman” compressor. Operates spray guns and impact wrenches for when your kids run over their 35th nail
Noise levels are only an issue if you live in an apartment and your neighbours are not deaf.
The cheap noisy as f*** compressors work just fine if you can run them in the garage or some
soundproofed room. Having 92 dB go off 2 feet from your ears when you are focused on the
painting can be rather irritating.
A compressor with a tank is relatively cheap,
a quiet compressor gets expensive …
My quiet (and expensive) compressor died when the tank rusted through.
It had a drain but the weld on the inside around the drain plug fitting was
raised above the bottom of the tank and trapped some water.
The drain plug needs to be at the very lowest point.
I would also investigate a 20 lbs CO2 tank and regulator. Dead quiet, No moisture problems, No power requirements 100% portable. Few parts to ever wear out.
Ditto - been using CO2 for decades.
Iwata Japanese made. I have used one for 15 years without a problem.
I had a ‘no name’ generic with tank, worked fine, but only ran for 1/2 hour then got hot, pressure regulator twist top failed after a year.
I upgraded to a Sparmax 220 (the Orange one) 3 years ago, rock solid, runs 2 airbrushes simultaneously, or runs all day with no issues.
Solid build quality, even switched off, it will hold pressure for a week if you forget to switch off.
(TIP: always switch off, blow pressure in pressure regulator to empty any water. I take drain plug underneath out & allow to dry, & keep the drain plug in the handy socket on top for the air brush holder.
Not totally silent, but I have it on a stool 12 inches from my build desk, & I don’t even notice it when running.
