I am not into ship modelling, but this kit looks really good to me
The company that made the photoetch and the deck and all the brass fittings is familiar to me. I have used their products before and they are pretty good. Not the best but for their price very good(Solid quality to cost ratio). They also produce 3D printed kits with brass and photoetch details. I have their HMS Vanguard kit and am waiting for a couple kits more from them.
What is impressive in the video is that the plastic kit is designed to be fitted with the wood deck and that they used 3M products for the masks and deck adhesive.
I will try to get this kit if possible.
Not model related but why does the man in the video have long fingernails on his pinky fingers ?
Some Asian men grow their pinky nails to attract good fortune. In some parts of Asia, people believe that having a little finger that extends past the joint closest to the tip of the ring finger is a sign of good fortune. They grow their nails to extend the length of their little finger and draw good luck.
I first tought it was to cut sprue bags open
H.P.
In my country most of the times the long pinky nail displayed higher social status or men that did not do labour work or work at all because of high income.
I remember my grandfather growing one after he retired as a woodworker/furniture manufacturer.
Several decades ago a long pinky nail was used for (sniff…sniff) certain nefarious activities!
Is this a completely new-tooled kit by a new company? If so, I’ll wait for a 1/700 version by them.
Interesting. Not a fan of all that photo-etch though. Would have preferred injection molded or 3D printed parts for the superstructure.
Good to finally see a modern rendition of Arizona, but I do agree with @MartinJQuinn though: it’s nice to have all that brass and 3d printed resin, but injected parts should be offered as an option to those less comfortable with working in the alternate media…
But I guess that it saves the company $$$ on tooling …
100% agreed on this. Attempted the Eduard set for the current terrible kit and ended up scrapping the PE and forking out $$$ on resin replacements. Looked amazing but really shouldn’t have to outlay that much extra.
Especially for a new tool kit.
@McRunty it’s certainly a tempting kit in a lot of ways and looking at the price, it’s comparable to what a new injection molded kit plus a decent aftermarket (EG Pontos set) would retail for here in Australia…
But two factors that come to my mind: this is a new kit brand without a proven track record, so could be considered a risky purchase; and why not offer an entry level version of the kit of just injection molded parts for those with neither the time or the funds for all the resin and brass?
Having said all that, it sure looks like a big improve over the Hobby Boss kit…
Where can this kit be purchased?
eBay…
I buy most of the stuff Chuanyu and DALIGEJIAN Model make from here:
he also has an aliexpress/alibaba store but his prices are lower in his site. Comparing to ebay or aliexpress they are also lower.
Still 330 euro is currently $390. Too rich for my blood especially given I just built this ship.
I just bit the bullet and ordered a kit. Looking forward to seeing it, as the ARIZONA and the WEST VIRGINIA are two of my favorite USN battleships.
I am looking forward to your impressions when it arrives.
