does anyone know the parts count of the Academy and Trumpeter kits?
A lot. Trumpeter says 310+. Academy doesn’t list the number, but has 8 plastic sprues, one clear sprue, one PE fret, decals and paper masks, etc., etc…
I still think the Ac demy version looks much better. This video really shows it in great detail and it looks great to me. Disregard the UN-1N he shows flying at the beginning.

I’m leaning towards the Academy version to tie in with my AH-1Z Viper (still in it’s box)

Same here.
Got my Academy kit today. Also had picked up the Trumpeter kit at the U.S. Nats, and the Academy kit is the one to get. As expected, a mixture of sprues from the Zulu kit (for the rear fuselage/tail, main and tail rotors, and exhausts) and new sprues for the Yankee parts. You have the weapons from the Zulu left over as they are on the B sprues, which you only use for the main rotor blades.

just an update mine arrived today, the wife has confiscated it and it is to be wrapped and redelivered to me on Christmas morning.
I did notice the box is considerably bigger than it’s viper/cobra counterpart.
