ODS M-998 Humvee, a small vignette

I started this build a couple of weeks ago as a quick and easy summer build. It is Academyˋs 1/35 scale M-998 from 1995. My first idea was to build Lt. Ficks vehicle from the 2003 invation of Irak (Generation Kill), but I found out that I was out of USMC figures and the vehicle would look very boring with a closed truck bed cover. Going through my stash I found some Desert Storm era soldiers from Dragon and I stole a driver figure from a Tamiya M-1025. He got a Dragon torso to get the correct type of ballistic vest and Alice gear.

Building the vehicle was pretty straight forward and the only change I did was changing the tyres with a set from Tamiya. They look a little bit better than the originals but not much. Otherwise it is pretty much OOB.

Stowage is bits and pieces from my spare box. The tarp is made from a piece of Kleenex soaked in PVA glue.

All the soldiers (exept the driver) got some resin heads, also from the spare box. I changed the pose on the M-60 gunner so he could stand «overwatch» on the truck bed. The journalist is a Frankenstein built with parts from Tamiya, AK, Dragon and legend.

The base is a cheap picture frame with a block of foam covered in modelling clay and acrylic paste with some sand in it.

Very nice! What paints / colors di you use on the ruck’s attached to the troop seat backs? Those look much better than my attempts to replicate the colors.

I started with a medium green (I think…) and used various shades of greens for high lights and shadow. Finished with a dark green wash and some desert colored pigments. Worth to notice that I outlined flaps and seams with a 000 brush loaded with a black brownish paint. I try to paint them in the same way as I paint figures.
