Lovely attention to those details Olivier. They make a huge difference.
Thank you Johnny.
This morning I test fitted the turret onto the hull. In my opinion it sits too high above the hull surface. What do you guys think ?
Here is the actual Olifant.
Here is the kit rendition.

Even accounting for the angle of the 1:1 photo, the kit turret sits much too high.
It appears so. Hopefully a clear photograph of that side will confirm this.
Also. the box with the angled mesh below the turret appears to be too tall in height and too short in length on the Hobby Boss kit.
Thanks for the inputs. Now I just need to find a way to fix this.

To be sure of the dimensional issues, you can measure in the photo of the real thing and compare it to the measurements of the model in the same places. Graphics editor programs like Photoshop and Gimp have measuring tools for just this kind of purpose, but if you must, you can make do with a ruler held against your screen. Zoom in as far as possible on the photo before using that latter method, though.
I fixed the turret height issue and added the numerous rivets to the mantlet canvas cover. The turret rests on the hull top. I just added spacers so the turret is slightly above the driver hatch “rain guards” and can rotate.
It’s time to add the details to the turret.

Nicely done. The turret is sitting a lot better now with that fix. Good work with the rivets as well … fiddly but worth the effort.
Great work Olivier. That looks SO much better.
Hobbyboss must have used a Chinese tape measure when they were doing measurements. Differing interpretations of an inch is a thing!!
Looks as if they magnified a metric tape measure and got the conversion wrong (each unit length is divided in tenths on the top tape, contrary to eighths…)
A Chinese inch is 1.312 inches apparently, who knew! Not me until quite recently as I am a purely metric bloke.

I haven’t made frequent updates lately however I managed to conclude the build.
First the hull with the running gear painted so I could glue the side skirts.
Then the turret. The antennas bases have been hollowed in order to insert in styrene lengths after the painting.
And finally the hull with the turret mated.
Now it’s paint booth time!

Great build Olivier… With the surgery on the turret, it looks perfect sat on the hull. Very nice job getting that put right. Looking forward to seeing the colour scheme for this.
I managed to apply the basic paint on the beast. The base is XF-52 Flat earth. Then I brush painted the outlines of the color patches XF-78 Wooden deck tan and XF-58 Olive green. I filled the interior with the airbrush and fixed the overspray with a paintbrush.
Now I still need to paint the details and apply the scarce markings.
Olivier
Very nice mate
Olivier that camouflage came out phenomenal, especially for doing it free hand. I would have used poster putty and taken much longer. You are very proficient with the airbrush and handbrushing. Great color matching, and the pattern looks perfect.
