Operation "Epsom" details

Talk about a bowel movement, worst place to get hit .
As always very well done .

Thank you for the great story Tom. When you read this, I wonder how todays youngsters would fare under similar circumstances… From experience, I know veterans (I am one of the Bosnian theatre, though I did not need to see combat) are indeed more inclined to tell their tale to other vets, as “civilians” a. do not understand the stories, and b. do not seem to care. And it is b. which stings the most. If one shows really an interest in the story of a veteran, without being cursory, they are more willing to tell their tale…

Wow! You see right there, that old gent had an anecdote himself that was worthy of a book being written about it!
You just never know what comes to the surface when you get inquisitive. Thanks for the very cool and quite interesting response.

Thanks buddy,I really appreciate those kind words,

Absolutely amazing work. The creation of multiple vignettes each of which evokes emotion makes this work a true standout. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the kind words and more importantly, welcome to the board!

Hi Jerry,

Outstanding work on the casualty, really feeling his pain in the way you’ve animated him, :slightly_smiling_face:.

Cheers,,

I wouldn’t wonder if, in case you look very carefully, you also added some ants in the field.
It makes, once again, clear that you are an extraordinary modeller of dio’s.
Looking forward to see more, keep us posted, please.

Thanks G I appreciate the nice comment!

Thanks Paul! Very kind of you to write that comment. I will do my best Sir!

Thanks for tolerating my interjection.

“that old gent had an anecdote himself that was worthy of a book being written about it!”

Or at least a web page to himself; I hope one of his daughters might do that. There’s bits of his tale scattered round the net from which I was able to glean the details of the tale he told me during our all-to-brief conversation, although some sources are just plain wrong, such as the ones stating he was made prisoner or even killed when “O – Orange” was shot down. Unfortunately I lost my links/bookmarks (and a lot else besides) when my previous computer committed sepukku about a year ago. For me the trail goes cold on his arrival at Gibraltar; all because I can’t recall the number of that third Squadron! Sadly I haven’t had any real contact with his family since his widow’s funeral the year before last.

Anyhow, enough said. I’ll shut up, sit back and watch how a master modeller tells a story via a group of superbly-crafted vignettes…

Regards,

M

Very nicely done JR … You sure they’re not Foot Guards ? … They’re even running in step :+1:

Maybe so maybe so! LoL It is actually much easier to be in step when carrying something like this though.
These guys are from the oldest Regt. in the Army.

Oh goody… This will cause some grief lol… Now … Oldest or senior …English, Scottish or Welsh… And line Regiment or a Regiment with a Royal prefix in its name or Foot Guards … And a clue would be it’s no longer in its original format …

Royal Scots! Other than that mate,I dunno!

Lol… Indeed JR , although it is open to debate now as they actually amalgamated in 2006 with the KOSBs and became the Royal Scots Borderers, 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland, so technically they don’t exist as the Royal Scots. The oldest English Regt are The Coldstreamers and the Senior infantry Regt who take precedence are the Grenadier Guards.

The Senior Regiment in the Army are the Household Cavalry. This only ever changes when Kings Troop RA are on parade with their Guns, however the Sovereign must also be on parade for them to take the Senior title (usually ONLY on Trooping the Colour). Sorry to go off topic JR…

Back to the stretcher bearers, they do look great… How long roughly would those 2 take to get up the picture taking time? Are they heavily converted ?

I had read somewhere that they were the oldest. Maybe it was at the time of Epsom ?
Anyway, that is certainly a can of worms right there. Wow.
It did take a bit of figure manipulation to arrive at this point yes. But I think it actually took longer to build the stretcher tell the truth.
There were 3 Bns in the left hand Brigade during Epsoms’ open and the Royal Scots and also RSF were represented with a Bn each.I have to get back to my books to remember the Bn numbers though. The Commonwealth designations do get into the weds.
