So I clear coated a ships funnel with gloss pledge before I pained the tiny ladders going up the sides! Silly question - can I paint over Pledge to detail the ladders?? Never had yhthis happen before. Or do I need to strip the pledge off? If so, how? Underneath paint is airbrushed on Tamiya semi gloss black acrylic. Tks!
If it has totally cured and is dry, you should be able to just paint over it.
whew. very nice - thanks!
Treat it like an acrylic laquer, Pledge is fairly similar to Tamiya acrylics
don’t sweat it. pledge is an acrylic.
Nice ! Thanks all… So a little Tamiya grey acrylic to outline ladders should work good when pledge is cured.
Correct.
Worked like a charm!
great! glad to hear it. post some pics.
If you can zoom in on the funnel. It’s the tiny ladder going up the side…
Messed up 1st reply. Trying this one.
looks very good!

I routenly use brushed on Pledge (actually still working with a big bottle of the old formula Future) as a decal set applied first and then as an overcoat. Then I finish with Tamiya Matte Clear (rattle can TS-80) as a finish coat. (Can held away from the model so the paint falls almost dry onto the sutface) to kill the shine of the Future.
Only then do i apply weathering pigments and washes.
The rough “tooth” of the matte clear applied dry gives the pigments something to hunker down into and adhere to so that no further seal coat is necessary.
