Panzer I Ausf. F / VK 18.01 - Hobbyboss 1/35

Hi all,

Recently wrapped up work on the Hobbyboss Panzer I Ausf. F. Was a bit of a shelf queen for a while as I built it last year but put it aside and moved onto other projects as I found the quality of the kit a bit lacklustre and it kind of killed the enthusiasm for a while.

But afters finishing Tamiya’s Mark IV Male, I was looking for a quick, small painting project and figured this little tank deserved a coat of paint. My main goal for the project was to work on my post-shading, and work out how much contrast was needed in the basecoat for it to still be somewhat visible through various layers of weathering and earth effects.

I picked up a set of aftermarket decals from Star Decals to portray it as park of the 2. Polizei Panzer Kompanie in 1944 which operated anti-partisan roles behind the front-lines. Two main reasons I went for this marking option were that a tank still in Dunkelgrau in 1944 was kind of interesting, and I’ve got a couple of kits in the stash that I wanted to practice painting panzer grey for! The decals were incredibly stiff, thick, and gave me a lot of trouble - I think they went ok ok in the end, but definitely will be giving Star Decals a miss in future.

Some added etch from Aber (meant for the old Alan kit), MG34 barrels from Master and metal tracks from Masterclub.
All painted with Tamiya and a little AK Real Colours, plus AK 3rd gen and Vallejo for brush painted details - all weathered with AK interactive enamels.

I also built a simple vignette base for it, using a short length of railway track and utility pole from Miniart, with the rest being scratch built.

Any questions please feel free to ask - as well as any thoughts/tips/critique too!

So with the waffle out of the way, here’s some pictures of the tiny tiger itself…

Absolutely some of the finest weathering I have ever seen. Subtle dusting effect is just outstanding and realistic. Beautifully finished! Very very inspiring to say the least.

I had some issues with Star decals breaking up upon taking them out of the water and trying to place them on the model.
