Panzer IV J Intriguing Paint Scheme

I found this, not much else, it is an Ausf H however.

I always considered this a very late '44 factory variant of Ambush/Hinterhalt. I’ve heard it referred to in some circles as “Disc” or “Ambush/Hinterhalt-Disk”.

As far as period/campaigns go, almost anywhere after about November '44 East or West. While lots of equipment earmarked for the Ardennes campaign had a more traditional ambush factory scheme, something like this wouldn’t be out of place in Nordwind, Spring Awakening/Konrad, East Prussia, Vistula Oder, Pomerania, and even into the spring of '45 in Austria and Czech.

This is a very general Idea, I’m not super well versed in the Ambush and variants, unit wise.

EDIT:

I knew I had seen more on this somewhere. What I wrote above appears to be fairly accurate. Here’s some refrence pics I found in my stash.

I would be wary of illustrations such as these as they are artist’s perceptions of B/W photo’s, often blurry, and sometimes low contrast. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these illustrations were complete inventions. However, it’s equally hard to claim that any Panther, Pz lV, Tiger, etc; NEVER had a camo like that.
