Nice. Now give us 1/35 NVA Soldiers. No, not those. The ones from the DDR.

Absolutely. I have these very nice Hornet heads with East German Helmets and can’t use them. I had the old ICM set and got rid of them, but want something up to today’s standards without having to convert if possible.

Wht can’t you use them? Want to trade?

The heads you mean? No figures to use them on. I do have the D-Day set of DDR Border troops but they’re not regular army, and I don’t want to convert.

You seen these, are they of any use?

I think I have that set too. They should be usable,I’m just not totally sure of the differences between the various East German uniforms; I’ve never studied them. As I told Robert, I have the MT-12 kit from Spalah and would love to make a diorama with it in East German service.

I’ve seen them - couldn’t find a place that had them in stock. I would definitely get them, and try to paint them like the fellas I saw back in '86.
But it’s a different uniform.

Seconded! I talked with Fox Hopp Models a while ago about NVA soldiers. With his new figure line:

I hope he will add NVA soldiers in the future.

NVA looks similar to the Wehrmacht one, but thats all. GDR government wanted a different uniform compared with Bundeswehr, so they got back to something Wehrmacht-like. Give the guy a Sturmgewehr 44 and a Blumentarn pattern and you will have a Wehrmacht 1947 soldier.

Fat chance Richard! I feel there’s no option but to convert; I’ve got form I admit and my efforts aren’t brilliant, though I kid myself that as time goes on they get a little better, but you’ll recall these I’m sure (all based on the Alanger/ICM kit with Hornet Heads added). There are obviously in the earlier Flachenmuster cam:

The scheme is relatively easy to paint. For later pattern uniforms life gets complicated as they adopted the Einstrich-Keinstrich “dashed” pattern, but this too can be tackled, at least for an effect using a fine needle-pen:

shown in the background of this pic:

If you trawl around a bit you’ll find plenty on the www re the differing uniforms and personal equipment:

Thereafter, it’s reach for the Magic Sculp/Milliput (and possibly gin) and set to; be prepared for a lot of sanding down though, and I mean a lot.

Using this as starter donor kit your MT-12 could be realised sooner than you think perhaps?

Is there a 1/24 scale PBR that I’m not aware of?
