My phantom pilot boat build, I started this a few years ago and never finished it, I would say it’s bout 60%, nice little Model shipways wooden kit. I have a few pics of where I am at so far, all my old pics are long gone, this will be a long build even a small boat like this takes a lot of time if you want a decent result. My first step starting from this point will be to do the copper hull platting. All comments welcome.
Lookin’ good - compared to the fig on the deck it looks like a pretty big machine! What scale is it?
Good luck with your build and have a nice day
Paweł
I have the same kit, not as far along as yours and has not come out of the closet since our move. It appears you’ve chosen not to copper the hull. That was a rather tedious process, but I like the way it turned out on mine.
He is planning on starting copperplating
Oops. Yes, missed that part. When I coppered mine, it was done almost entirely with the hull clamped upside down, which having the deck and other details already installed would have complicated. Still, it looks like beautiful work so far. I’ll be following with interest.
Thanks guys for all the comments, I will be cutting copper plates for the next few days, they will be 1/4 inch long by 1/8 wide, when I start coppering I will post some pics. I will also make the pictures a little bit bigger.
Hi guys time for a small update, I added separate planks to the all roofs and painted them Tamiya light grey, I left some of the wood texture on purpose showing through as I like the wood grain. I have also made the picture just a little bit bigger so you can click on it. All comments welcome.
Time for an update, in the center of the picture I added the 2 black painted pumps and filled the mast hole in, the mast hole was about 1/8 inch to far to the back, I will drill a new hole later. To the right of the pic I added the companion way and the ventilator painted black.
I have started to add a few copper plates but am not happy how they turned out, I will have to remove them as they are to small and difficult for me to handle. I have ordered some new copper plates off ebay, These new plates are 1/96 scale but they appear to be a little larger than the ones I made, I will give those a try, I will post a pic as soon as I install some. All comments welcome.
If the ebay plates don’t work out, you can get self-adhesive copper foil tape in a variety of widths from any online stained glass supplier, then just cut them to the desired length in your chopper.
Thanks for your comment, that is a very good idea.
Looking great so far.
Thanks for the comment, the good comments are a nice motivation for finishing this boat.
Time for an update. The first pic shows the new copper plate at the top and the old one I made below it, I will be using the new one much bigger and easier to handle and they have the nail head detail on them. The next few pics show the mostly finished bow sprit and some rigging I added, this piece is a small model by itself, I think I counted with the rigging about 45 pieces. All comments welcome.
