Itā€™s Finally Done!

The glass is in and the final top coat of Tung Oil is drying until Monday morning. Red Oak stained with Minwax Early American and sealed with Tung Oil.

Now itā€™s time to get back to the bunker and crank up the heat as I prep the oil palette.

Thanks for watchin. Cheers, Ski.

Capt. Walt in Progress

Just three quick shots of Capt. Waltā€™s progress. Iā€™m working the hands and finishing up anything left on the upper torso before moving on to Bruce and Luke to do the same.

Now that my saw dust session is over, Iā€™m gladly working this set in the warm bunker. More to follow soon and thanks for watchin.

Cheers, Ski.

Really love the tones youā€™ve got on the uniform and equipment. Quite an expressive face too! The woodwork on the guns looks superb- can I ask what your process is for that?

Thanks, Karl. That process always seems to be an ambiguous approach, but Iā€™ll tell you how I did it this time. What I mean by that is Iā€™m always trying something new and havenā€™t set a hard and fast rule for stocks, but this time it worked ok.

The stock gets a coat of Tamiya Desert Tan, then a Vallejo dark choc tone for the grain. I did too heavy a wash of Burnt Umber oils, so the Burnt Sienna oil layer didnā€™t get a pronounced appearance. The grain work has basically been neutered. However, looking over many color pics, itā€™s not a big deal, the stocks were pretty dark in color, not so pronounced, so Iā€™m letting it ride.

The gun metal work was and is now pretty much standard for me using Alexander Glassā€™s Blitz Rounds metallic paints.

This is some seriously stinky stuff, but I love it and would recommend it to anyone. After this paint dries completely, over night, I wash on an Ivory Black oil, thinned to set in the recesses and voila!

Hope that helps, Karl
