Videoaviation is working on a couple of sets of Practice Bomb Dispensers: the SUU 20 and SUU 21 in 1:48 scale
Being a former 462 Aircraft Armament Systems Specialist (Aka Weapons Loader) that worked the F-111Es and EF-111As of RAF Upper Heyford (77th AMU, 1988-1990), I’d love to see the SUU-21 made. Hopefully with the ability to be displayed opened, and with the options for six BDU-33s and six Mk-106s to be loaded. Our Aardvarks would often fly with one loaded with 33s and the opposite wing would be loaded with 106s, Often, but not always, along with fuel tanks on the outer pylons, or a second pair of SUU-21s.
Hopefully, the fuse safing clips for the bombs and the safing clips for the SUU-21s could be included along with the appropriate “REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT” tags. Likely the bomb’s clips could be a molded (or printed) part that would be used in place of an “armed” fuse. For the SUU’s and 106’s clips, metal etched parts could be used (though the 106’s clips may be a PITA to make correctly, due to the shape involved).
Another thing, the noses of the SUUs often were dented. So, a dented optional nose cone would be a nice option.
Welcome! That’s quite the introduction.
I’ve been modeling since the mid 70s, and it led me directly to joining the USAF. I miss my pigs, and hope to help others represent them as best as possible.
I remember the first time I was overflown by an F-111 (I was riding on the chairlift at Mt. Ashland Ski Resort (Oregon), when it flew directly over us (and it seemed not too much higher than the chairlift)).
