For the AHHQ M3/M3A1 half track kit, although they aren’t the greatest, I’ve decided to use the kit-supplied vinyl tracks. When I’ve test fitted them, they are VERY TIGHT. I looked back and my suspension components seem to be built correctly. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Have you tried stretching them a little? Since they’re flexible, that sounds like it should be possible if you’re careful.

Did the original have some sort of compensating idler system ? Even if the kit doesn’t have it designed as adjustable could it be modified to be so ?

It did — early halftracks had screw adjusters between the chassis and the underside of the idler wheel axle, later ones had a spring that pushed the idler rearward, with the screw being an adjustable stop instead of actually moving the idler axle.

That is why I rarley affix the idler to any build I do, unless it has individual links.
