any idea what purpose those uprights serve, or served in the case of the V3 ?
They were used in conjunction with the bustle to tie off stowage. The SEP v3 has the VCSU in the bustle, so that takes care of the left two. The CREW Duke box on the right &/or the fridge, takes care of the other two.
OK, that makes sense. Now that you mention it I recall the original M1 had provisions for webbing straps on the rear prior to the addition of the rear bustle rack, guess these were they attached.
Bugger. Assembled the turret across the weekend (better fit than Dragon’s M1 series - don’t understand how Dragon can get the height issue of the gun wrong).
I’ll have to dig out the cutters & do some surgery ![]()
So how can i get the fridge and antenna mount for my Aussie Abrams
Trying to glue the lower front brackets that have the tie-down loops (not sure if that’s the correct term) attached - P/N W52 anyway - &, of course, one of them sprang off from the tweezers into the never-never
.
Does anyone know if these can be sourced from the a/m trade?
Got a pic from the instructions?
I down loaded RFM’s SEP v2 instructions - the C sprue is obviously common, so I’ll use p/n C43 shown fitted in the same position on the v2 as the v3. I’ll have to live with any differences between this part & the one called out in the v3 instructions - carpet monster wins again
Why is to soo difficult to get 3 little pieces to finish my Australian SEP V.3?
Just need to fridge, umbrella mount and the fridge power adaptor
For anyone looking for a pic of the RH side of the Aussie SEPv3 camo layout…

did you ever finshish the sep v.3 ausse camo scheme?
For anyone interested, according to armyrecognition.com, Delta SQN 2CAV celebrated OR of their new tanks with an official raising ceremony (i.e. the colours would have been paraded) 23APR. Can’t advise how many Tps within the SQN, but it is the only SQN operating the A2 SEPv3. They’ll get to test out their new toy in about 6 weeks or so during Ex. Talisman Saber (our Army’s biggest domestic, international-level Ex)
The two tank squadrons within 2nd Cavalry Regiment each have a headquarters of two tanks & four Troops, each with four tanks, for a total of 18 tanks per squadron.
Just a note on Australian unit titles & the sizes; we use commonwealth/UK names to denote the size.
Regiment = battalion sized org.
Squadron = company sized.
Troop = platoon sized.
So, no Australian armoured units have a “3 platoon”, for example.
Within a regiment, squadrons are lettered A, B, C etc., with troops sequentially numbered from 1, 2 etc.
So, assume A & B Sqns have 3 troops, C & D have 4 Tps, it’d look like this:
A Sqn: 1, 2, 3 Tps.
B Sqn: 4, 5, 6 Tps.
C Sqn: 7, 8, 9, 10 Tps.
D Sqn: 11, 12, 13, 14 Tps.
I’ve seen this cause misunderstandings when working with the US Army when a tank troop (platoon equivalent) of four tanks turns up when they’re expecting a US troop of a dozen or so.
All of this is public domain.
To be clear, when I wrote I couldn’t advise how many Tps within the SQN, it was because I didn’t have that info, not because I was being deliberately obtuse
all we need now is a company to make a sheet of decals for the SEP V.3
the only decals for a Australian Abrams are for the M1A1 SA
Other than the weight class (circled numbers), I’d opine that these are nearly identical in Oz. The external form doesn’t really change the locations or unit designators, and the swap out is nearly one-for-one at the user end. Have you compared extant photos to see what might be missing/changed, Nick?
the names on the tanks on the are in the same location but on the SEP V.3 they are not in white on a black background
Hence my “nearly identical”.
