Question about choice of 1/35 Abrams engine

Hi all
Have been toying with the idea of creating an opened up Abrams. Have seen that CMK & Legend both do power packs. Does anyone have experience, good or bad, with one over the other? Have they been engineered with a particular kit in mind?
Cheers

A third alternative would be the power pack from RFMs M1A1/2 with interior kit. I haven’t seen the Legends set but have the CMK one, RFMs being the better of the two.

Edit: if you don’t already have an Abrams kit on hand this is the one to get if you’re wanting to model the interior

RFM has the full interior as a separate kit.

Wow. Having never seen the RFM driver’s compartment, I can say it’s pretty bare boned. Lots of room for detailing for anyone who really wants to tackle it.

Both CMK and Legend have their pros and cons, but I think the CMK is a little better.
The RFM is better than the others, plus has the rest of the interior if you want it. It’s designed for the RFM kit, it would take a bit of work to adapt it to another brand kit.

I think I have all the 1/35 abrams engines somewhere in the stash:

  • Legend (previously Model Valley?)
  • CMK
  • Kirin
  • Italeri (included in their M1A1 with resin parts)
  • Rye Field

Of the resin sets, (i.e. the first four) CMK is the nicest. They had a version to fit the Tamiya kit and one to fit the Dragon kit, but I think they’re the same basic parts in both, so they probably fit other kits as well.

The RFM Abrams engine builds out very nicely.
I added a little wire detailing to finish it out.
