Question about humvee turret

Hello,

I wonder if there is a specific name for this turret.

A lot of companies offered different armored turrets that were field tested in Iraq, along with a myriad of homebrews prior to the GPK and OGPK turrets were standardized by the Army and the MCTAGS by the Marines.

GUnner’s Protection Kit (GPK) turret. It provided some protection from small arms fire and shrapnel to gunners, but as it turned out, it wasn;t enough - so some crafty soldier, added bulletproof glass windshield from Humvees to add some ballistic protection, plus visibility.

Eventually, the maker of the GPK turret came out with the Optimized Gunner’s Protection Kit (O-GPK) turret, by raising the steel plates and adding vision blocks on both the sides along with a larger gun shield. They also added an armored roof panel to protect the gunner from grenades and RPG fire.

O-GPK Turret with Overhead Cover.

Eventually, the Marines came up with their own turret for not only their Humvees, but eventually used on other vehicles, including the new Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV). The Marine Corps Transparent Armor Gun Shield (MCTAGS).

But in between these two variants, as i said before, there were other, less succesful turret options fielded, including good old fashioned “Hill billy Armor” that was used until standardized Uparmored vehicles were fielded.

The SAG turret was used by SF units in their GMVs; very modular.

Made by Live Resin in 1:35 scale.
This one seems to have a poor protection with more exposed gunner.

It does come with additional plates that can be attached, plus mounts for additional weapons.

The more protected the gunner, the less protected the crew.
